QR codes and labels
RecyTrax uses two kinds of QR codes. Telling them apart avoids most "Code not accepted" messages.
| RecyTrax QR code | QR label | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | The QR code RecyTrax prints on the identification corner of an inbound or outbound batch. | A sticker (already printed, from another source) stuck on a unit or a packaging, whose code RecyTrax records. |
| Where it comes from | The Print corner button. | Your label rolls; RecyTrax does not print them. |
| What it holds | A code starting with rtx:ib: (inbound batch) or rtx:ob: (outbound batch), printed in small type under the QR code. | Any text, for example QR-77310482. |
| Where to scan it | The header scan button; the search of the Degassing and Dismantling queues. | The QR label field; the search of the processing queues; the cylinder and packaging pickers. |
| What scanning does | Opens the batch page. | Links the label, or finds the unit or packaging carrying it. |
A QR label is an external identifier: a code that does not come from RecyTrax, but that RecyTrax links to an appliance or a packaging so it can be found with a single scan.
Before you start
- A camera: a phone, a tablet or a laptop with a camera. On a phone or tablet, RecyTrax uses the back camera. Scanning works in the browser, on iOS, Android and Windows.
- A secure connection: the camera is only available when RecyTrax is opened over HTTPS.
- Camera permission: the first time, the browser asks for access to the camera; allow it.
- Or a handheld scanner: a barcode scanner that "types" the code followed by Enter works in every field where a code can be typed (see With a handheld scanner).
- The permissions of the target screen: scanning a batch's code opens its page only if you have the Inbound batches (or Outbound batches) permission. See Roles & permissions.
Print a batch's identification corner
The identification corner is a Letter-size page, to stick on the batch so it can be recognized on the shop floor. The Print corner button is found:
- on an inbound batch page;
- in the Inbound batches section of a reception (each batch's printer icon);
- on the page of an outbound batch that is already saved, even shipped.
| Corner | Content |
|---|---|
| INBOUND BATCH | The LE-n number in very large type, Reception, Weight, Number of products, Process before, Created on, the QR code, and "Printed on …". |
| OUTBOUND BATCH | The LS-n number in very large type, Material, Weight, Created on, the QR code, and "Printed on …". |
- Save your changes first: the corner uses the batch as it is saved.
- Click Print corner.
- The PDF opens in a new tab and the print window appears. Print the page.
- Stick the page on the batch, somewhere visible.
If your browser blocks the new tab, the PDF is downloaded instead (LE-n.pdf or LS-n.pdf). Open it
from your downloads to print it, or allow pop-ups for RecyTrax.
A corner's QR code stays valid as long as the batch exists: print the corner again if the printed information (weight, number of products) has changed.
Scan a code from the header
The scan button opens a batch's page straight from its identification corner.
- Open the scanner:
- on a computer or tablet, click the QR code icon in the top bar (Scan a QR code);
- on a phone, tap Scan in the middle of the bottom bar. On screens that show an action button at the bottom (such as Save), this bar is hidden: go back to a list to find it again.
- The Scan a QR code window shows "Starting the camera…", then the camera image.
- Place the corner's QR code inside the frame ("Hold a batch's QR code inside the frame.").
- As soon as the code is read, the window closes and the inbound or outbound batch page opens.
If the code read is not a RecyTrax code (for example an appliance's QR label), the camera stops and shows Code not accepted: "This QR code isn't a RecyTrax code.". Click Scan again to resume, or Close.
Link a QR label to a unit
A unit's QR label is entered along with its identification, in the Identify a unit of batch LE-n window: on the inbound batch page, or at the Degassing and Dismantling workstations.
- Stick the label on the appliance.
- Open the unit's identification window (Identify or Change the identification).
- In the QR label field, click Scan and place the label inside the frame ("Hold the label stuck on the unit inside the frame."). You can also type the code in Scan or type the code, then press Enter.
- RecyTrax checks the label. If it is accepted, it shows in the field.
- Choose the unit's model, then click Identify.
- On the batch page, click Save (at a processing workstation, the identification is saved immediately).
Once the label is set, the Scan button becomes Change. To remove the label, click the Remove the label cross at the end of the field, then confirm the identification.
A unit's label shows on the unit's card at the processing workstations, under QR label. It can no longer be changed once the unit's processing has started (unit degassed, "No gas" recorded, or unit dismantled), unless that step is undone at the processing workstation.
Link a QR label to a packaging
Packagings (bins, cages, gas cylinders, etc.) can also carry a QR label.
- Open Administration › Packagings, then create a packaging (New packaging) or edit one (Edit packaging).
- In the QR label field, click Scan and place the label stuck on the packaging inside the frame, or type the code then press Enter.
- Click Save.
At the degassing workstation, scanning the label of an unknown cylinder opens the New cylinder window directly, with the label already filled in. See Packagings.
Where to scan a label
| Screen | Button | What scanning does |
|---|---|---|
| Degassing and Dismantling queues | QR code icon in the search (Scan an inbound batch or a unit's label) | An inbound batch's code puts its number in the search; a unit's label opens the unit at this workstation. |
| Degassing workstation, Cylinder field | Scan the cylinder | Picks the cylinder carrying this label or code; an unknown label opens New cylinder. |
| Outbound batch page, Packaging field | Scan a packaging's label | Picks the packaging carrying this label, otherwise this code. |
| Shipments, Create an outbound batch window, Packaging field | Scan a packaging's label | Same. |
| Unit identification window, packaging window | Scan / Change | Links the label. |
You can also search by label without a camera: the processing queues' search ("Batch, reception, label, brand or model") and the Administration › Packagings search ("Search by code or label") find a label from part of its code.
With a handheld scanner
A handheld scanner types the code then Enter. It works:
- in the QR label field: the code is checked on Enter;
- in the search of the Degassing and Dismantling queues: an inbound batch's code is replaced by the batch number, and a unit's exact label opens that unit;
- in the Cylinder field's search: Enter picks the cylinder whose code or label matches exactly.
The header scan button, for its part, only uses the camera.
Label rules
- Uniqueness: a label can only be linked to one unit, and a packaging label to only one packaging. RecyTrax refuses the label and explains why (see the messages below); stick another label and scan it.
- Case and spaces: spaces around the code are removed, and
QR-1andqr-1are treated as the same label. - No RecyTrax code: a code starting with
rtx:(that of an identification corner) cannot be used as a label. - A refused label is not recorded: the field goes back to the previous label and an amber banner shows "Label “…” not associated", followed by the reason.
- Check in progress: the Identify or Save button waits until a typed label has been checked.
Messages
| Message | Where | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| "This QR code isn't a RecyTrax code." | Header scan, processing queues | The code read is not an identification corner's. |
| "This QR code is not an inbound batch's. Scan an inbound batch label (LE-…)." | Processing queues | You scanned an outbound batch's corner. |
| "This inbound batch cannot be found." | Processing queues | The batch of this corner no longer exists. |
| "No unit has the label “…”. Identify the unit to associate its label." | Processing queues | The label is not linked to any unit. |
| "This is a RecyTrax code (a batch), not a label. Scan the label stuck on it." | QR label field, cylinder picker | You scanned an identification corner instead of a label. |
| "This label is already on another unit (LE-n · …). Labels must be unique: stick another label on the unit and scan it." | Unit identification | The label is already on a unit of another batch. |
| "This label is already on another unit of this batch. Labels must be unique: stick another label on the unit and scan it." | Inbound batch page | The label is already on another unit of the same batch, saved or not. |
| "This label is already on packaging … . Labels must be unique: stick another label on the packaging and scan it." | Packaging window | The label is already on another packaging. |
| "The label couldn't be checked. Check the connection, then scan it again." | QR label field | The check did not go through (connection lost). |
| "No packaging has the label or code “…”." | Packaging field | Neither a packaging label nor a packaging code matches. |
| "No cylinder has this label or code." | Cylinder field | Neither a cylinder label nor a cylinder code matches. |
Camera problems
| Message | What to do |
|---|---|
| "The camera is only available over a secure connection (HTTPS)." | Open RecyTrax through its https:// address. |
| "Camera access is denied. Allow it in the browser settings, then try again." | Allow the camera for RecyTrax in the browser's site settings (on iOS or Android, also check that the browser has camera access in the device settings), then reopen the scanner. |
| "No camera is available on this device." | Use a device with a camera, or a handheld scanner in the fields that accept typing. |
| "The camera couldn't start. Close other apps using it, then try again." | Close video-call or camera apps, then reopen the scanner. |
Light the label well and keep the whole code inside the frame shown on the camera image. After a refused code, the camera pauses so you can read the message: click Scan again to continue.
Frequently asked questions
I scanned an appliance's label with the header button and got "Code not accepted".
The header button only opens the RecyTrax codes of identification corners. To find a unit by its label, use the scan button in the search of the Degassing or Dismantling queues.
Can I print QR labels for units with RecyTrax?
No. RecyTrax only prints the batches' identification corners. The labels of units and packagings are stickers you supply; RecyTrax records their code.
Scanning opens an "access denied" page.
The code was read, but you don't have the permission to open this kind of batch. Ask an administrator for the Inbound batches or Outbound batches permission.
A label was stuck on the wrong appliance.
As long as the unit's processing has not started, open the unit's Change the identification, click the Remove the label cross, confirm, then link the label to the right unit.
The printed corner shows an old weight.
The corner uses the batch as it was saved at printing time. Save the batch, then click Print corner again.
The print window doesn't open.
Your browser probably blocks pop-ups: the PDF was downloaded. Open it from your downloads, or allow pop-ups for RecyTrax.
